(Reuters) – Danny Aiello, a veteran stage and movie actor remembered for his roles in Spike Lee’s “Do the Proper Factor,” Woody Allen’s “The Purple Rose of Cairo” and dozens of different motion pictures, died at age 86, his publicist and agent mentioned on Friday.

Aiello, who earned Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for his supporting function as Sal the pizza man in Lee’s 1989 film, died on Thursday evening after a short sickness, publicist Tracey Miller mentioned in an e mail.
